Highlights from the State of the Schools

The 2024 State of the Schools was presented Wednesday, March 13, 2024. Superintendent Dr. Tracy R. Reed highlighted goals, priorities and accomplishments. In addition, two alumnae were honored with a new alumni award.

During her comments, Dr. Reed touched on the changing demographics within the District, including the increasing number of English learners and students with disabilities.

“The diversity of Reynoldsburg City Schools is an asset and one of the characteristics that attracted me to the community,” she said.

Among the accomplishments, Dr. Reed listed the STEM and STEAM re-designations of three schools, the implementation of all-day kindergarten at all seven elementary schools, and a virtual job fair for potential teachers held March 11th with 130 applicants.

She announced next steps and priorities, including a new District organizational chart to better serve the needs of students and support principals and building staff.

Additional priorities include:
  • Studying future student enrollment
  • Determining budgets and staff allocations for next school year
  • Engaging the community in reviewing the District’s vision and goals.
Dr. Reed also acknowledged the District faces challenges, such as limited space in school buildings, deficit spending, and safety concerns.

“My goal is to expand on our successes, while at the same time addressing our challenges. The goal is to provide an environment that supports teaching and learning that ends with graduates who are innovative problem solvers, socially and emotionally competent, effective communicators, collaborators, and culturally aware citizens,” she said.

The alumni award was presented to Sue Jemison Murphy and Emily Quick Schriver. The award has been established this year to recognize a graduate who perpetuates the district’s traditions, fosters pride within the school community and serves as a role model for students.

Sue Murphy is a 1968 graduate of Reynoldsburg High School. She began as a substitute teacher in Reynoldsburg City Schools in 1974. That led to a full-time position and a 35-year career in the District. In 2004, Sue and her husband Mike began a scholarship in memory of their son Jason. The $2,500 scholarship is awarded to a Reynoldsburg graduate who has had special education services and plans to further their education at a post high school program or job training.

Emily Quick Schriver graduated from Reynoldsburg High School in 2000.  She is the Chief Executive Officer of The Matriots. As CEO, Emily leads the organization’s mission to advance women’s equal participation in all aspects of political life in Ohio. Emily joined The Matriots in 2021, following a career as a lawyer representing institutions of higher education on issues of public policy and regulatory compliance. Most recently, she was an attorney in the Office of Legal Affairs at The Ohio State University.
