Avoid the Summer Slide with a Reading Program

Dear Parents,
Summer is a fun and exciting time for everyone to enjoy the great outdoors and enjoy the excitement of family activities, sporting events, and simply relax. It is also a fabulous opportunity to encourage students to read.

Did you know that Reynoldsburg City School District is providing students K-8 access to myON, a personalized collection of more than 5,000 digital books to read over the summer on computers, laptops, and devices? There are all types of books from biographies, graphic novels in all subject areas from sports, to animals and more! We encourage you to read with your child at home during this summer break to prevent the “summer slide” and promote learning through reading. Their enhanced books include optional scaffolds—narrated audio, text highlighting, and an embedded dictionary—to support readers at all levels. At home, you can track the minutes your child has read as well as their Lexile reading level.

To encourage your students to read over the summer, myON has also created a national reading contest for the top readers in the country. The theme of this year’s reading contest is Every Hero has a Story! For more information go to http://thefutureinreading.myon.com/2015Summer!

Be sure to follow myON on Facebook (myONFanClub) and @myONreader for important updates and special events during the summer!

We hope you enjoy the 2015 Summer Reading Program – Every Hero has a Story! Happy reading!

Sincerely,
Reynoldsburg City School District
